It was affordable, clean, had good restaurants, somewhat close to downtown Brooklyn and it only required one same platform transfer to my job in midtown. It was where I could afford at the time and I liked many aspects of it. Moved to Bay Ridge from another city when I was in my early 20s. If you go into the city or other areas of Brooklyn like Bushwick or Williamsburg for nightlife the trip home is either long (train) or expensive (Uber). It does have a lot more of a homey community feel than a hot spot vibe. ![]() It’s definitely not a trendy neighborhood though, but after 10 years walking around and almost always seeing someone I know is a great feeling. I made great friends at the dog park and yoga, it doesn’t all have to be bars! Ho Brah gets a lot of younger people looking for a night out as well. It has a great staff, wonderful regulars, a nice backyard and decent food. Lock Yard is my personal favorite for the local bar vibe. Plenty of young people can be found in Bakers (RIP JJ Bubbles), Pour House, Windy City and Kettle Black. ![]() There are plenty of bars with younger people in them, but they’re more beer/divey bars rather than trendy. ![]() As far as that goes you get used to it! It’s not the end of the world like people make it sound especially during the day. I moved to Bay Ridge 10 years ago when I was 25(F) and commuted into Soho, then Midtown, then Fidi, now Soho again.
